Humanoid

Episode 2

Following the successful release of our first film documenting the seven-month build of the HMND 01 Alpha, NextShoot returned to capture the next critical phase in Humanoid’s ambitious mission.

Very few technologies reshape daily life the way phones, cars, or PCs did - humanoid robotics is setting up to be the next major transition. However, moving from an initial working prototype to real-world commercial deployment requires balancing rapid hardware iteration, component failures, and the pressure to deliver proven value in live industrial environments.

For Part 2 of this documentary series, our team went back into the lab to film the high-stakes reality of turning physical AI into a commercially viable product.
01
The Brief
Following the debut of HMND 01 Alpha, Humanoid faced a new challenge: proving that their technology could rapidly scale, secure essential backing, and transition into a fully bipedal humanoid platform.

In an industry where a year-old breakthrough is already obsolete, the pressure was immediate. Humanoid needed a follow-up film that would capture this intense next chapter:

The Pressure of Scale: Moving from building a robot in seven months to delivering the next iteration in just five months.

Commercial & Technical Reality: Bridging the gap between ambitious market promises and real-world capability by validating hardware across intensive customer Proof of Concept (PoC) deployments.

The Bipedal Leap: Transitioning from the Alpha wheeled platform to a free-walking, bipedal prototype. This meant capturing the raw engineering hurdles - from tuning whole-body controllers and managing dynamic equilibrium to lighter leg structures and power electronics failing under load.

Humanoid’s marketing team tasked NextShoot with producing a candid look behind the scenes. The goal was to avoid slick corporate PR and instead showcase the raw grit, engineering setbacks, and relentless 24/7 drive of a hungry UK team taking on massive global tech giants

Our Approach
To capture the essence of this high-pressure environment, our production team maintained an agile, observational shooting style across Humanoid’s development spaces.

We embedded our cameras directly across Humanoid’s global development hubs in Vancouver, Boston, and London. Rather than scripted set pieces, we prioritised candid interviews and authentic moments - from the tension of deploying walking policies for the first time and the literal smell of smoke when boards blew, to the triumph of dynamic walking.

Alongside the hardware stress-testing and bipedal locomotion, we captured the commercial reality: demonstrating fleet orchestration, hitting ambitious PoC milestones, and building toward production-intent hardware.

By placing human experience at the centre of a complex deep-tech narrative, we ensured the film resonated with investors, industry partners, and the broader public alike.

The Results
The resulting film is an honest and compelling look at what it takes to participate in the global humanoid race. By documenting both the breakthroughs and the inevitable failures, the documentary reinforces Humanoid’s reputation for radical transparency and technical courage.

Part 2 of the full documentary highlights a pivotal moment for the UK tech ecosystem - showing a team refusing to slow down as they pioneer the future of physical AI, fleet management, and industrial robotics.
