Bringing the future of work….

Kelly is a recruitment consultant, based in Michigan (USA), with 7000 staff globally and revenues of over $5 billion. Kelly expertise spans an array of outsourcing and consulting solutions, including recruitment, resource management and outplacement services.

People today are choosing to work in independent ways—temporary, contract, freelance, and as gig workers—to gain experience, advance their careers, and achieve flexibility to pursue their passions. For employers, the task then becomes embracing this modern world of work and rethinking their talent strategy to harness the potential of all workers and work styles and their value in the workplace.
Introduction
In a new video series, ‘Consumer Trends Impacting a Changing Workforce’, Stylus’s Global Director of Advisory Services,Dr Antonia Ward, and John Healy, VP & Managing Director, Office of the Future of Work, at Kelly, discuss eight consumer trends shaping the way we view and approach work – and why businesses cross-industry will have to respond.

Having worked with Stylus on their consultancy video content over the last several years, NextShoot video production was approached by them and Kelly to create a series of thought-leadership videos about the ‘Future of Work’, exploring the way in which changing consumer trends are affecting the workplace.

Pre-Production
The series of 10 videos places Kelly as the experts and touches on a broad array of topics including ‘Search for Purpose’, ‘Algorithm-led Discovery’, ‘Third Spaces’, and ‘The Connected City’ with straight-to-camera pieces supported by relevant high quality stills imagery.

The video series explains how today’s employees are choosing to work in independent ways— contract, temporary, freelance, and as gig workers—to gain experience, advance their careers, and achieve flexibility to pursue their passions. For employers, the task then becomes embracing this modern world of work and rethinking their talent strategy to harness the potential of all workers and work styles and their value in the workplace.
Filming
We only had a single 10 hour filming day to capture the content for all 10 videos in the series, but the preparation the speakers had done ahead of the shoot really paid off. Both John and Antonia were very comfortable starting the videos with introduction pieces to camera, and then segueing into a conversation between themselves, in which they prompted each other with questions to cover off certain topics and findings. Their fluency and ease in front of the cameras meant that there was no issue with time at all, allowing us to focus on tone and clarity of particular sections of each conversation.

The set up was a little challenging as we were filming in a live office environment, and while we wanted to get a sense of an actual office - important given the subject matter - we didn’t want the background to be distracting. Employees were warned they were in the shot and to avoid doing anything they didn’t want irrevocably captured on film. We dressed the back of the shot, covering some windows to avoid too much light spilling in and placed coloured tube lights in the back of each single shot to bring some interest and accent to each speaker’s frame,

Post-Production
The videos were slated for regular postings on LinkedIn and other platforms so the key was to ensure each video was ready for transmission. Assembling the spoken content was relatively straightforward as the contributors had been heavily involved in the pre-production processes and the talking points and key outcomes for each video had been painstakingly explored in advance of filming.

Each video was transcribed and captioned to ensure the maximum impact across all social media channels. A selection of still imagery from stock libraries was selected for each video and incorporated into the edited videos along with animation elements.
